Hello! My name is Alun and I've been tutoring since early 2021. Previously I worked for 14 years as an IT technician at a large secondary school in Gateshead, and before that I worked for 5 years in software development.

I graduated from Portsmouth University in 1999 with a first class honours degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, and in 2015 I completed a Physics degree with the Open University, for which I also received first class honours.

I have had a lifelong passion for learning, with a particular focus on the STEM subjects, i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It's been a joy for me to begin sharing this knowledge with others through my tutoring business.

I have gained much experience since I began and have witnessed significant improvement in a number of my pupils.

The key to improvement is to focus on the basics and practise diligently until the knowledge becomes second-nature. I have a patient and supportive style and do my best to see the subject through the eyes of the student, so that I can tailor my explanations to suit their needs.

With technical subjects, it's very important to work through problems, because being able to solve problems is foundational to all else in STEM. As such, most of my lesson time is spent on practising with real-world or exam-style challenges. I have learnt from experience that this method produces the best results.

I offer tuition at affordable rates both online and at the student's home, depending on your preference. I live in Gateshead and am happy to travel within a 30-mile radius. I don't work weekends but have plenty of free time during the week. For up-to-date availability, please see my calendar page.
